I have a pair of Chelsea boots from Topshop that get me all the compliments.
On a sad slushy day in Toronto, another mopey streetcar passenger even leaned over just to ask me where I got them. When a stranger in a busy city takes the time to compliment you, trust you are doing something right.
Sadly for her, Topshop doesn't carry my pair anymore.
But all is not lost! We at PLEATHR have rounded up our favourite vegan friendly Chelsea-style boots sure to keep you in the high praises of city dwellers on the lookout for street fashion inspiration.
First off, what are chelsea boots?
Chelsea boots are close-fitting, ankle-high boots with an elastic side panel. They often have a loop or tab of fabric on the back of the boot, enabling the boot to be pulled on.
The boot dates back to the Victorian era, when it was worn by both men and women. Chelsea boots and some of its variants were considered an iconic element of the 1960s in Britain, particularly the mod scene.
My roommate Mitchell once called my Chelseas “very witchy” (which, in case you weren’t sure, is definitely a compliment). My manager at work said, “I want those!” (then I got a raise for looking so good. jk) And every time my boyfriend hears the click of the heel on the hardwood floor, he knows that he has to wear his nice shoes that night too.
We'll be waiting for the comments to roll in when you, too, get that much deserved compliment ;)
JOLIETTE BOOT | MATT + NAT
Behold Matt +Nat’s (this company is getting some real love from us) vegan-friendly Joliette boot.
I'm especially a fan of the practical heel. Not too high, not too low; primed for those of us who navigate on foot.
POLA CHELSEA BOOT | URBAN OUTFITTERS
UO has a vegan patent leather boot that is a winner for anyone that wants to dress it up a little. The shine gives these babies a sharper look.
PACIFIC CHELSEA BOOT | FREE PEOPLE
This Free People Chelsea boot might be my personal favorite. I love that the heel is higher, the toe is square and the side panel is a different color than the boot itself, creating a look that is so worth the $$.
Choose a Chelsea boot, friends, because we can’t all be Carrie Bradshaw with a closet full of shoes for every occasion. Their versatility is unparalleled—wear them to work catering gigs, to parties with dresses, wear them with mom jeans even (always).
I won't judge. They're all I wear too.
